Jimmy Herring, the former lead guitarist for Phil Lesh and Friends, The Other Ones and The Dead, celebrates his 48th birthday today (Jan. 22). I once had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy during a Widespread Panic show I was working at the Palace Theater in Albany, NY in 2007. One of the coolest guys I have ever met! Actually pointed him to the stage. He asked me if it was ok if he smoked! I said as long as you keep playing guitar like that, you can do whatever you want. He laughed. Awesome moment. Think I picked up one of his sweat rags that night too, but that's a whole other story. Production Assistants always get the shit jobs!
